Obituary

The people at the funeral home were really patient with my father and helped him through a lot; he wanted to write the obituary himself, and he knew right away which picture he wanted to use. He was very relieved that they could put that all online for him, even scanning the picture. They sent me the web address, and my dad is at my cousin's right now, so my cousin will be able to show him how that looks online. For more recent pictures of my parents, see this post.

The picture he chose is a picture from when they were first married, during the "grand romance" as he calls it in the obituary. I've never heard him say that before, but I believe it. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary a few years ago when my mom was still able to be out and about; we had a very nice time that night.

  1. There is so much here. I feel like I know you a little better as I get to know your mother for the first time. I got tears in my eyes.

    1. Thank you, Satia! I'm not even sure what I would have tried to write if it had fallen to me to write this obituary, but my dad really needed to do this his own way, and so he did, and it meant a lot to him to be able to choose the picture. Being able to share the link with people has been good too.

  2. Your mother went through so much, and your father, too. I'm glad your father had the opportunity to write the obituary. It clearly meant a great deal to him to be able to share that. There is so much love in those few words, and so much loss.
